Community Service Electives XLH2001 Community Service gives elective credit to students for volunteer work they perform on their own time. It provides opportunities for students to develop responsibility, encourages humanitarian attitudes by doing things for others without compensation, and encourages cooperative working relationships with peers and adults in the community. Peer Education Program Electives 901TRAN This standards-based, service-learning intensive, advanced course is offered as an elective for students in grades 10 to 12. Student Peer Educators represent a cross-section of the school population and must be positive role models for their peers. Student Peer Educators will start the year by developing their own personal and social skills; over the course of this year-long class, they will be expected to take greater responsibility and leadership in the planning, creation, and execution of student-identified projects, classroom lessons, school-wide and community activities. The objective of the course is to communicate social justice enhancing messages in a range of formats and to a variety of audiences, including statewide HTA campuses, peers, parents, faculty, and the local community. These Student Peer Educators will be trained as ''Peer Mediators'' with the added duties of serving as leaders of restorative conversations and lead presenters for events.
