Anatomy and Physiology Science,
Electives
SLH7503 Students learn about anatomical structures and physiology of the human body. Body systems are discussed in terms of how each participates in homeostasis of the body. Students learn about selected major pathologies, including causes, symptoms, diagnostic procedures, and treatments, as well as common changes that occur through the lifespan. 1.00 HTA Biology N Waipahu Blended Learning Program
Astronomy Science,
Electives
301TRAN Why do stars twinkle? Is it possible to fall into a black hole? Will the sun ever stop shining? Since the first glimpse of the night sky, humans have been fascinated with the stars, planets, and universe that surrounds us. This course will introduce students to the study of astronomy, including its history and development, basic scientific laws of motion and gravity, the concepts of modern astronomy, and the methods used by astronomers to learn more about the universe. Additional topics include the solar system, the Milky Way and other galaxies, and the sun and stars. Using online tools, students will examine the life cycle of stars, the properties of planets, and the exploration of space. 1.00 HTA Physical Science or STEM 1 N Big Island

Biology Science SLH2203 This course addresses key concepts and processes related to the chemistry of life, cells, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, genetics, and DNA, evolution, classification, and ecology. Students in biology will participate in lab work to facilitate learning and participate as scientists doing science. Through this class students will develop skills of a biologist: using a microscope, collecting data, analyzing data, and supporting ideas with biological evidence. All Biology students at the end of the semester must take the state EOC assessment. 1.00 HTA Physical Science or STEM 1 Y Big Island

Forensic Science Science,
Electives
SAH3003 Fingerprints. Blood Splatter. DNA analysis. The world of law enforcement is increasingly making use of the techniques and knowledge from the sciences to better understand the crimes that are committed and to catch those individuals responsible for the crimes. forensic science applies scientific knowledge to the criminal justice system. This course focuses on some of the techniques and practices used by forensic scientists during a crime scene investigation (CSI). Starting with how clues and data are recorded and preserved, the student will follow evidence trails until the CSI goes to trial, examining how various elements of the crime scene are analyzed and processed. 1.00 HTA Physical Science or STEM 1, Biology recommended but not required N Big Island

SPH5603 This course addresses concepts of mechanics, wave behavior and thermodynamics, Newton's Law's of motion thermal properties of matter, and thermodynamic systems. This course also contains lessons on electricity, magnetism, optics, the interactions among electric charges, properties of electric and magnetic fields and forces, and the characteristics of electromagnetic waves. Some of the basic concepts of quantum physics are presented as well. An understanding of Algebra and Trigonometry is required. 1.00 HTA Chemistry and Algebra II or Director Approval if math requirement is not met N Waipahu Blended Learning Program
STEM 1 Science SPH2603 This course centers on the engineering and design process as students utilize problem solving skills to engage in integrated course work. Students will identify problems, research solutions, create prototype designs, and test these prototypes. This course is an introductory science class equivalent to Physical Science. The skills learned in this class will transfer to upper level science courses. The specific concepts explored will include: forces and motion, machines, energy, work, electricity, the periodic table, and chemical bonds and chemical reactions. 1.00 HTA N Big Island
